3rd Ozren Brigage

In the Belgrade newspapers Politika of 6 December 2008, Marko Lakić presents the flag of the 3rd Ozren Brigade of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) (article). Ozren is a mountain in central northern Bosnia, north of Zenica.

The flag appears to be a rectangular, about 1 x 2 m in size (but only the central part of the flag is shown on the photo), blue with the white dougle-headed eagle membered and beaked yellow and crowned with a yellow crown and bearing a red shield with a yellow cross and firesteels. The name of the brigade is inscribed in an arch above and below it, in yellow Cyrillic letters ВОЈСКА РЕПУБЛИКЕ СРПСКЕ / ТРЕЋА ОЗРЕНСКА БРНГАДА (Vojska Republika Srpske / Treča ozrenska brigada).
The article further recounts that this flag was brought on a flee market in Zagreb by a collector from Novi Sad, although it is not know how it came to Zagreb. The flag was probably captured by Bosnian "Mujahedin" fighters of the so called El Mujahid company, apparently composed by fighters from Arab countries. On the occasion these soldiers did gruesome atrocities on captured Serb soldiers, something the Hague court is looking into.
The newspapers quote a Colonel of the Serb forces who recaptured the positions afterwards, who did not wish to be named; he explains that "This is the original flag. The brigades had light blue flags with the double-headed eagle, the firesteels and the unit name. The lower rank units carried the Serbian tricolour". Whether these tricolours were plain or had some symbols or inscriptions is not mentioned.
The collector who now owns the flag told that, according to the stories he heard, this is the only captured military flag of the Army of Republika Srpska.
